Before washing your crochet bag
Read the product details first. Yarn type, lining, hardware and structure affect how a bag should be cleaned. Remove everything from the pockets, close any zip and gently brush away dry dust. If the bag has a stain, test a small hidden area before using any soap on the visible fabric. Some bags allow a gentle machine cycle; others must not be immersed. This general guide does not replace the maker’s instructions.
How to hand-wash when the label allows it
- Fill a basin with cool water and a small amount of mild detergent.
- Submerge the bag only if its care instructions allow full washing.
- Press and gently agitate the fabric; do not twist, wring or scrub hard.
- Rinse with cool water until the water runs clear and no soap remains.
Avoid bleach, fabric softener, hot water and aggressive stain removers. Heat and friction can shrink cotton, loosen colour and pull crochet stitches out of shape.
Reshape and dry it flat
Support the wet bag from underneath, press out excess water in a clean towel and reshape it while damp. Lay it flat on a dry towel in its natural shape. Keep it away from radiators, tumble dryers and strong direct sunlight. Hanging a heavy wet crochet bag can stretch the handles and body.
How to store a crochet bag
Store the bag clean and completely dry, lightly stuffed with acid-free tissue or a soft cotton cloth so it keeps its shape. Keep it in a cool, dry place with room to breathe. Do not seal damp crochet in plastic, and avoid placing heavy objects on top of it for long periods.
